Palestinian taxi driver rushed to hospital after being attacked by Israeli soldiers

Un chauffeur de taxi palestinien précipité à l'hôpital après avoir été attaqué par des soldats sionistes

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces violently assaulted a Palestinian taxi driver "for no reason" near the village of Nabi Salih west of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank on Sunday night, local sources told Ma'an.

Tamir Farah Tamimi was driving his taxi back home to Nabi Salih after a day of work when Israeli soldiers stopped him at a military checkpoint near the entrance to the village and started to punch him and hit him with the butts of their rifles.

Locals said that Tamimi suffered from severe bleeding from his head and was unconscious when he was evacuated in an Israeli ambulance to a hospital inside Israel.

The extent of his injuries, and the location of the hospital where Tamimi was being treated remained unknown.

In response to a request for comment, an Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that "during an arrest at the village of Nabi Salih, a confrontation erupted between IDF forces and a Palestinian. The Palestinian was injured and evacuated by IDF forces to a hospital for medical treatment, and incident is currently being reviewed."

The spokesperson could not comment on the reasons behind the alleged arrest, or confirm if the incident took place at the checkpoint while Tamimi was attempting to pass through in his vehicle.

Unjustified violence and harassment of Palestinians carried out by Israeli forces, particularly at the hundreds of military checkpoints scattered across the occupied Palestinian territory, are such a regular occurrence that most instances go unreported and have become "the norm," according to Israeli NGO B'Tselem.

According to the group, Palestinians typically refrain from filing complains for fear the that doing so would only bring further harm on themselves, and due to lack of trust in a system and a culture of impunity for Israeli forces that commit violent acts against Palestinians.
