Khalil: We responded to PA's conditions and received no response

Khalil : Nous avons répondu aux conditions de l'AP et nous n'avons reçu aucune réponse

Deputy Director of the Gaza Energy Authority, Fathi Sheikh Khalil, said on Sunday that his Authority has responded to all conditions and remarks set by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to agree to solve the electricity crisis in the Gaza Strip but received no response so far.

Sheikh Khalil said in a press conference that the PA demands include increasing the electricity tax collection, using the funds collected to contribute to the cost of the electricity provided to the Gaza Strip, and appointing neutral parties to oversee the work of the Electricity Distribution Company and participate in managing the electricity sector in Gaza.

He pointed out that if the PA in Ramallah did not respond to the urgent appeals and refused to supply tax-free fuel to Gaza, legal steps will be taken to put an end to the suffering of the Gazan citizens.

He called on all human rights organizations to sue all the parties and responsible persons who have a hand in the ongoing catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip due to the power shortage.

The deputy head affirmed that the Energy Authority and other competent authorities in Gaza exerted great efforts to make the PA agree to re-supply the fuel needed to operate the power plant and to alleviate the crisis that hit all aspects of life in the coastal enclave.

Sheikh Khalil explained that many meetings have been held with many parties, most notably the meetings between the Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nikolai Mladenov and his assistant Robert Piper and the official authorities in Gaza.

He held Israel responsible for the crises caused to the Gazan people, adding that the occupation is responsible for providing all basic services to the citizens of the territories it occupies in accordance with the international laws and the Charter of the United Nations.
