Israeli court jails Palestinian astrophysicist for two months administratively

La cour d'Israel met en prison un astrophysicien palestinien pendant deux mois en "arrestation administrative"

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- The Israeli military court in Ofer sanctioned on Sunday the administrative detention of astrophysicist Imad al-Barghouthi for only two months instead of three months as requested by the Israeli prosecutor.

Lawyer Jawad Bolous, head of the legal unit at the Palestinian prisoner society, said the judge rejected the pleadings presented by the Israeli prosecutor for the detention of Barghouthi for three months and decided to reduce the period for two months.

Bolous expressed regret at this court verdict and described the detention of Barghouthi as arbitrary and unjustified.

Israel arrested, with no reason, the Palestinian astrophysicist in early December at al-Karama border crossing as he was intending to go to Jordan to fly from there to the UAE to participate in a scientific conference at the invitation of its organizers.
