Israeli police on Sunday entered Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque compound following demonstrations by Palestinians at the holy site, police sources said.

Israeli police on Sunday entered Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque compound following demonstrations by Palestinians at the holy site, police sources said.

The Palestinians inside the compound in the Old City of Jerusalem threw stones at police and spilled oil on the ground to make them slip, said public radio.

Police had earlier Sunday deployed extra troops after calls for demonstrations around the holy site.

Al Jazeera television reported that there are 10 injured and 15 detained so far in the confrontations.
